Stephanie offers several Nutrition Program options. Choose from the list of options below to find the best Nutrition Program for you!
Nutrition Coaching
Most of us need extra support when it comes to fighting temptations and staying “on the wagon” with our nutrition plans. Stephanie offers a 90-day Nutrition Coaching program to create a custom, progressive nutrition plan, track your every bite, and find the perfect plans that work for YOUR BODY and keep you getting results for 90 days at a time. All nutrition coaching programs require a free consult call to screen you for which program is best for you. You can schedule that at the link below.
Nutritional Psychology
Nutritional Psychology is a nutritionally focused intervention for people with depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, ADHD, psychotic disorders, PTSD, autism spectrum disorders, and other psychiatric disorders who prefer not to take medication, don’t improve with medication, can’t tolerate or afford medication, only partially benefit from medication, or have bothersome side effects from medication, or just want to try a natural approach to reduce or eliminate mental health symptoms. This is NOT mental health counseling, this is nutrition coaching with behavior change psychology augmentation. I will work with you to do these 5 things:
Make incremental changes in your diet to improve hut health
Nutritional supplementation to target specific potential nutrient deficiencies that may be the cause of the most prominent mental health symptoms
Behavior change psychology to overcome the emotional ties to eating and the physical and mental addictions to junk foods
Monitor mental health symptoms as interventions occur
Consult with your existing mental health provider or physician if deemed necessary (for more severe mental health cases or medical co-morbidities)
(see FAQs below for more info)
Nutritional Psychology Service FAQ’s
Why have I never heard of Nutritional Psychology?
The field of nutritional psychology is admittedly in its infancy, and rigorous clinical trials exploring the effect of dietary changes on mental health are few and far between, but a tremendous amount of science already exists detailing how high-sugar and processed foods diets jeopardize brain health, and how low-carbohydrate, whole food diets support brain health. I am one of the few Licensed Mental Health Clinicians who has gone through exclusive training with one of the pioneers in Nutritional Psychiatry, Dr. Georgia Ede and are practicing actively using this intervention successfully with clients.
Ok, I signed up. What is next?
After you sign up, I will send you an email with a link to schedule your assessment call with me. You will get a form to fill out ahead of time so I can get an idea of where you are at right now with your health. The assessment call will take up to an hour depending on how complicated your case is. From there, I will develop a customized nutrition plan for you. We will meet again for up to an hour to review it and talk about execution. After that, each week, we will meet for up to an hour to discuss your compliance with the plan, and any changes in symptoms, and do the hard work of the behavior change psychology to make sure you are being set up for success. We will work together for 3 months, meeting each week from about 30 min to an hour making small changes over time to further refine your nutrition, and experimenting with different eating techniques to get you the best results. I will also be monitoring your food logs each day and providing you feedback and asking questions. You will have the ability to send me messages at any time with any questions or for feedback. My goal for you at the end of our 90 days together is for you to have maintained a healthy nutrition plan consistently for most of our time together, you have noticed a marked improvement in your mental health and physical health symptoms, you have established some effective coping skills to combat eating addiction and self-sabotage and that you have found a few sustainable ways to continue progressing beyond our time together. You always have the option to continue with me if you feel you need additional support, but my goal is to get you “out of the nest and into the sky” within 90 days and equipped to continue making progress on your own from thereon.
Is this an in-person service?
I do not provide this service in person at this time. We will work together remotely via the video chat tool on the Fire Team Whiskey App. The Fire Team Whiskey App is also where you will be keeping your daily food logs, tracking your other daily behavior and nutrition goals, and where you can message me anytime with questions.
Do you take insurance?
No, I do not. I will skip the soapbox about what I think of insurance companies. Because I am a Licenced Mental Health practitioner, I can provide you an ICD-10 coded bill for you to submit to your insurance provider to attempt to get some reimbursement for out-of-network medical care. I also accept HSA/FSA payment cards. So, this is another way to offset the out-of-pocket cost for you to receive this valuable service.
What if I am already being seen by a Mental Health Provider?
That is great! I will not deter you from doing that. What I might do is get your permission to communicate with your mental health provider just to let them know what we are doing and also, if you are experiencing improvement in your symptoms, to work with your provider to start reducing your medications and monitoring this adjustment. Myself and your provider should have the same goal, for you to get to a place of highest functioning with the lowest amount of symptoms and the least amount of interventions needed to achieve this. I can not promise that your mental health provider will be supportive of your choice to try some natural interventions to improve your condition, however. Not all cases require my needing to communicate with your provider, so we will discuss this as needed.
Is this a diet?
You will learn soon that I hate the “D-word”. No, it’s not a diet. My focus is not to make you lose weight. My focus is to help you improve your nutrition to improve your health and your mental health. If you are overweight, you will probably lose weight following the nutritional protocols we put you on. That will be a natural side effect of eating better foods and improving your health.
Will I be able to go back to eating what I want after we are done?
Hell no. If you go right back to eating the things that damaged your health in the first place, you will be sick and damaged again soon after. I am only interested in helping you make permanent healthy changes. You want a yo-yo-diet, there are plenty of companies out there who will happily take your money and put you on one.
What if I have other medical issues too?
Actually, I would be shocked if you don’t, as 86% of Americans are metabolically ill. Statistically, you probably do have at least one if not more medical conditions already. This is a part of my assessment process. I will learn about all of your medical and mental health issues and I will make sure that nothing that we try will create any harm. I have worked with people with autoimmune diseases, cancer, diabetes, heart disease, and many other medical conditions. There are very few conditions in which we would not be able to make nutritional changes that could improve both your mental health and physical health. If you fall into that category, I will let you know and we can explore some alternatives for you.
What if I need mental health treatment too?
I am happy to provide that, but I am limited by the mandate of my Licensure of who I can provide this to. When we have our discovery call, we can talk about the best place for you to get mental health therapy either with me or with another provider and we can work together on the Nutritional Psychology interventions.
